RAINY SPRING DAYS

Friday, May 29, 2015

This Spring has been a weird mix of grey and sunny days. Fortunately, it hasn't been too cold for this time of the year, but I still would love to see the sun a little more. It's almost June, meaning that we're getting closer to Summer, so I'm just telling myself that warmer and sunnier days are just around the corner. I was planning on doing an outfit post today, but the pictures somehow didn't turn out as good as I hoped. Don't really know what's going on with my Canon, so I'm trying to figure it out now. But hey, those pretty flowers in the pictures down below really bring that Spring feeling around us, don't they? I just had to take some pictures when I saw them popping out of the grass, so pretty. I'm heading to the train station now to hop on the train on my way to Den Bosch. I'm finally meeting up with my friend whom I haven't seen for like two months or so. Waaay to long if you'd ask me, you can imagine there's lots of catching up to do. What are your plans for the weekend? Happy Fri-yay! <3

WEDNESDAY CRAVINGS

Wednesday, May 27, 2015

Two things I'm craving for at the moment are a nice pair of  ripped boyfriend jeans and a white blazer. Little did I know that finding these two could be so hard. I've told you many times that I can be picky sometimes, and once again it hit me. When I was in Sweden two weeks ago, I bumped into a white blazer from Zara. I somehow doubted, even after I tried it on. I told myself I'd come back later that week and - if not - I would try it on again back in the Netherlands. When I was in Nijmegen last week, I saw the exact same blazer in the color black, but the white one was nowhere to be found. Stupid me, I should have bought that blazer in Stockholm! I'll try and hit the Zara in a different city later this week, hope they have it there. Otherwise I might hit the 'buy' button on their website.

And then the case with the ripped boyfriend jeans. I just can't find the right one.. One I find too ripped, another one too loose or too sloppy.. ugh. Need to keep searching! Anyways, here're some outfits that inspire me at the moment. What do you think?

HAPPINESS

Tuesday, May 19, 2015

As cheesy as it sounds, I believe that happiness can be found in even the smallest things. From the moment you start appreciating the little things in life, life becomes richer. Nowadays, many people are able to have so much that it becomes a habit of having it, whereas many others in this world can only dream about having it. Habits get bored and people are suddenly not 'happy' or - better called - satisfied anymore. Appreciation vanishes away and people want more and more in order to become 'happy' again. But where does it end? That's why I'm convinced that nobody should base their happiness on what you have, where you are and whom your with. I believe in the smallest things in life and you're the one who can control the thoughts about it. If you start appreciating even the smallest things, you'll be much more satisfied and happy with the things you do have.

So, what are the little things that make me happy at the moment:

  • Waking up in the morning feeling refreshed after a good night's sleep
  • Morning tea/coffee and breakfast
  • A clean and tidy home
  • Sports and morning walks
  • Good music. For example, when go for a walk with my dogs in the morning and the sun is shining, I love to put my earphones on. The mornings are, somehow, always so peaceful, so silent. When one of my favorite songs starts playing, the feeling can't be anything other than super good. I suddenly forget the negativity around me and I just enjoy the moment.
  • The smell after rain.. ''Petrichor (n), the scent of rain on dry earth.''
  • Beautiful pictures that inspire me (Amen to Pinterest)
  • Movies & series. I'm waiting for Pretty Little Liars and Suits to continue their seasons again. I recently finished Breaking Bad and started watching Orphan Black, it's such a good story I got addicted after 3 minutes! Do you know it? What are you favorite movies and/or series?
  • Fresh flowers, I love peonies and tulips.
  • My loved ones on good health and happiness
  • My dear family and friends around me
  • Laughs until my stomach hurts. We all love that, don't we?
  • That feeling when you come home after a long day and you change your clothes to sweatpants, put your hair up and you can relax with no-make up on.

What are the little things that make you happy?

NORDIC SHADES

Friday, May 15, 2015

Now that I saw Stockholm myself (see my Stockholm photo diary here), I completely understand why this city is loved by so many street style bloggers. Everywhere I looked I saw men and women wearing trendy and well considered outfits. Not just one or two persons who chose the perfect balance between various colors, materials and accessories. No seriously, almost everyone! I l-o-v-e the Scandinavian street style, so this city was definitely a Valhalla for me. Basically, this Nordic style can be defined as simple and effortless. Less is always more when it comes to accessorizing and basic pieces are essential to any wardrobe. I saw lots of girls wearing long coats or cardigans paired with black jeans and stylish sneakers. Like I said, simple and effortless, but so fashionable. Totally my style!

Btw, these pictures were taken in Stockholm. I somehow felt much more comfortable taking these pictures.. probably also because the background is much better than the boring countryside in the Netherlands haha. It's hard to find good places to shoot in my village, such a bummer..

What I'm wearing:
Coat, Sweater / Zara
Bag / DKNY
Sneakers / Nike
Sunglasses / Ray-Ban
Watch / Daniel Wellington

TACK SÅ MYCKET, STOCKHOLM!

Wednesday, May 13, 2015

On Sunday evening I already left Stockholm behind me, but since my head is still somewhere in Gamla Stan, I think it's time to talk about last week's city trip. Thursday morning, or better said Wednesday night - after 3.5 hours of sleep - it was time to wake up, pack the last couple of things and hop in the car to get on our way to Schiphol Airport. We had an early flight, so we got in Stockholm around 08:30 am. I've always wanted to go to Stockholm and I'm very glad I finally did. The city is beautiful and has everything you can imagine.. Old traditional houses in Gamla Stan, silent watersides, beautiful green parks, friendly and stylish people (which I'll talk about in my next post this Friday), trendy shops (amen to Lexington, Acne Studios, Tiger of Sweden, etc), good food such as Swedish meatballs, fresh smoked salmon, knäckebrödcinnamon buns, etc. Ooh, someone take me back! Anyway, enough with the chatting, let the pictures speak for itself.

Oh, p.s. sorry for the photo explosion! :)

On our first day we took the hop on hop off tour bus. It's a thing we always do when going on a city trip. It's an easy and a great way to explorer the city. After that, we strolled around the city, visiting the shopping streets, Kungsträgården, the Royal Palace and other interesting things. After a little rest at the hotel, we had dinner at Jamie's Italian. We dined at one of Jamie Oliver's restaurants in London as well and since we liked the food so much, we just had to have dinner there in Stockholm too.

On our second day we visited the old town Gamla Stan, famous for its medieval houses, buildings and churches, and for the central point 'Stortorget'. I read that there was a very, very small alley in Gamla Stan that was hard to find. True that, because we couldn't find it either. After a fika (coffee break) at the Espresso House (must-visit) and a little help from my dear friend Google Maps, we finally found the smallest street of Stockholm. Mårten Trotzigs gränd is only 90cm wide at its narrowest point, funny to see.

Stockholm has an untouched nature and we absolutely didn't want to miss that. On day three we got on a boat that took us through the archipelago in 2.5 - 3 hours. For me, this boat trip was the highlight of the city trip. There's nothing as tranquil as the archipelago in the morning. The silence, the untouched nature.. so peaceful. I already imagined myself living on an island there haha. No stress, no harm.. Can't get any better, right?!

On our last day we just walked around the city, you know just enjoying our last hours in this beautiful city. A little shopping here and there and having drinks including the famous Joe & the Juices which was so, so, so yummy! Couldn't complain at all!

All in all, Stockholm is a great place to visit. I could even see myself living here. Maybe next year? You never know what happens in the future. Anyhow, if you're thinking about traveling to this city.. just go! I'm sure you'll have a great time, this city absolutely didn't leave me disappointed! Tack så mycket, Stockholm!
