Ciao Roma!

Saturday, January 25, 2014

Ciao! Almost 6 days in Rome and I need to be honest with you guys. As much as I like the city, it still feels weird to be away from home again. I went on a city trip to Rome back in 2012, so I kind of 'know' the city already. However, being in the Eternal City feels different now. The main reason is probably because I'm here for a longer time period and for another purpose.

Let me tell you a bit more about my last couple of days. Monday we arrived at the airport and it took us more than 2.5 hours to get to the hotel. Rome is busy guys, really busy. There's traffic everywhere, sirens going off all the time, etc. Anyway, right after checking into the hotel, we went into the city and did a little bit of sightseeing. If I may say it myself, I'm lucky that I have (a bit of) good sense of direction, so it was pretty easy to go to the places we wanted to go.

On Tuesday, I walked all the way to my internship company and the house I will be living at the next couple of months. Ooh boy, it was such a long walk. I think I walked more than 20km. Anyway, I found what I was looking for and since I like to walk, especially in Rome, you won't hear me complaining. Right now, I'm still staying at the hotel as 'my' room in the apartment is not available until tomorrow afternoon.

Wednesday my first day as an intern started. I have to admit that it was a little bit chaotic and overwhelming. Anyway, after a full workday - or three - it got better. The company seems very challenging to me, so I'm pretty curious what the next five months will bring me.

Today is my first weekend here. I was so exhausted from the last couple of days. New city, long walks, full workdays, new people and all the new impressions.. yeah that got me so tired. I, therefore, went to bed early last night and slept a little bit longer this morning. After a delicious breakfast at the hotel, I decided to go into the city and shot some pictures and, yes, I did a little bit of shopping as well. I bought a brightly green colored blouse from Massimo Dutti and a dark blue Zara summer dress. You'll probably see my new purchases in one of my posts later.

The first couple of days it rained here, but today's weather is lovely. It's not too chilly, there's a bright blue sky and the sun is shining. Couldn't be any better for this time of the year, right?

Guess I'm just having a relaxing weekend getting to know Rome a bit more.
What are your plans for the weekend?

Roma, sto arrivando!

It's time to go, Rome is calling for me! After a short night of sleep, my alarm clock went off pretty early this morning. I'm still super excited about Michael Bublé's concert last night. Whoa, that was incredible!

Anyway, after I got myself ready this morning, I packed the last couple of things, closed my suitcases and now I'm at Amsterdam Airport Schiphol waiting for my flight to take-off. I secretly do have some mixed feelings, but I'm beyond excited to go and live abroad for another 5 months! Still cannot believe I am this lucky again. Big shout out to the ones who made this happen!

Just wanted to say a quick goodbye to you all, I'll be back before you even know! :)

Arrivederci! xo

Oh Mr. Bublé, save the last dance for me

I'm sitting in the car on my way back home after an a-m-a-z-i-n-g night and I feel like I'm just as energetic as a kid going to an entertainment park. Seriously guys I'm way too excited waiting to share this with you. So yes, I'm dedicating one entire post about my evening haha.

What did I do then? I tell you this: Michael Bublé. Yessss, I went to Michael Bublé's concert tonight and oh boy, that man, who happened to be a hopeless romantic person (as he said) can sing incredibly beautiful. I have been wishing visiting one of his concerts for ages and I finally got the chance to see him in real life. I love his voice, his music, the way he entertains his public (yes, he has a great sense of humor).. I just loved the entire show. Wow, I think he's one of the best singers of the world! Feel like I can talk about it forever haha. Next time I'll definitely go again!!

                                                                                               Here's a little sneak-peek:

Sorry for the not-so-perfect photo quality.

Good Morning

A well-slept night in the most comfortable bed ever! After months spending my time behind my computer, doing interesting research, and keeping my stress moments and headaches in control, I finally submitted my Bachelor dissertation last Monday. So a good night of sleep was exactly what I needed today. Since I'll be leaving in less than a week, I decided to go out for dinner with my family and one of my best friends tonight. I don't really want to call it a 'goodbye dinner' because to me that sounds like I'm never coming back or so haha. Now I'm still enjoying my morning cup of green tea in my pj's, but in a minute I'll be putting on my running clothes and go for a long run.

After I finished this, it's time to hit the city. Due to the lack of time, I wasn't able to get all my stuff together for my internship, so there's still some shopping to do before I head off to Rome. D-day is coming so close now, only 5 days left!

Have a nice Wednesday everyone!

Some good news

Monday, January 6, 2014

The smart reader may have noticed the hint in my previous post. I mentioned that in a couple of weeks I'll be leaving the Netherlands for another five months. Some of you already know that I lived abroad in Madrid for 4 months back in 2012, but very, very, very soon, I'll be heading off to ...

ROME!

Yess, no turning back now! I got an internship in the Eternal City, the capital of Italy, Roma Capitale! Can't say it more clearly. In exactly two weeks I'll be heading off to the sacred city and start my internship there. I'm looking forward working at my placement company and I'm so curious about what it's like to be living in wonderful Italy. The weather definitely won't be a problem, that's for sure.

Two years ago I went on a city trip to Rome and I immediately fell in love. Remember the post I wrote? You can read it here if you like. During that trip I celebrated my birthday by throwing a coin into the Trevi Fountain. Some say that you'll come back to Rome only if you throw the coin in the right way. Destiny or luck?! I don't know, but I find it quite funny.

So yes, two weeks left! It's exciting, yet it scares me as it comes really close now. There're plenty of things that need to be done first. I aim at finishing these things by the end of next week. I'm stressed, fingers crossed!

2014

Happy New Year everyone!

I hope you had a great New Year's Eve last night including fireworks, champagne, delicious foods, but most of all that you celebrated it with your beloved ones.

I can barely wait what 2014 has to offer. In a couple of weeks I'll be leaving my home country for another five months (more about that later). I'm also in my final year of my Bachelor study, so I surely hope to graduate! Exciting! But then? What to do after that? Oh boy it's hard, but I've got so many plans for this year and many dreams I want to make come true, so 2014 let's see what you've got. I'm ready for you!
